Use the arrow keys or WASD to dig down to the required depth to establish your tree.

Watch out for rocks, and don't run out of water.

If you see a purpleish water droplet, it means another player has died there. You can soak up the water they left behind, but be careful not to meet the same fate as them!

This game was created for the Global Game Jam 2023 with the theme ROOTS

Love the simplicity of the game, as well as the re-imagining of snake. Pixel art is highly intuitive and charming. Well done!

One possible improvement would be to store a buffer of keystrokes that the player enters, for example, [D, R, D] would make the root go down one frame, right the next frame, and finally down for the last frame. But needing to do frame-perfect inputs is part of the classic snake mechanic and players expect this, just offering an alternative perspective. :)

I love the flow of it. Started to lose track of time because I wanted to keep going.

Thanks so much for playing! Glad you enjoyed it.

This was a pretty cool re-interpretation of Snakes to the game jam's theme. I'm pretty bad at snakes but I liked this idea and also the incorporation of seeing player's failed attempts to sprout a tree.

Thank you for playing! Snake was my jam back in the day on my little flip-phone.
